Police seek help in solving robbery

ROANOKE RAPIDS — City police are seeking the public’s help in solving an armed robbery which occurred at the Oakland Mini Mart June 30.

Capt. Andy Jackson said the suspect entered the store wearing a black bandanna with yellow smiley faces and removed a small-caliber handgun from a tote bag draped over his right shoulder.

The pistol was purple with pink hand grips. He pointed at the clerk and demanded money. The clerk gave him the money and then complied with an additional request for cigarettes.

The man fled the store on foot. He is described as a black male with dreadlocks, wearing all black clothing, smiley face bandanna and a black hat. He has noticeable light splotches on his hand. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Roanoke Rapids Police Department at 533-2810 or Halifax County Crimestoppers at 583-4444.
