Capt. Laura Fahnestock of the Rocky Mount Police Department said William Wesley Schowengerdt, 53, got into an argument with his stepson, Alexander Walker, 21.

Fahnestock said Schowengerdt retrieved a gun from the trailer and shot Walker, who ran from the home before he collapsed out front. Police say Schowengerdt shot his wife, Lynda Schowengerdt, 53, and then shot himself on the front porch.

Lynda Schowengerdt could be seen lying lifeless on the porch outside the single-wide trailer, minutes after the shooting, witnesses reported to the Rocky Mount Telegram. Both Wes and Lynda Schowengerdt died at the scene, investigators said.  Walker was transported to Nash General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A woman identified as Theodora Walker who lived next to the trailer told a reporter, “I just lost my daughter and my grandson. Do not call back.” The woman abruptly hung up the phone.

Fahnestock said investigators are still on the scene. She had no additional details.
