In game one versus Camden the Roanoke Valley all-stars jumped on Camden 7-0 and never looked back. Ashley Sawyer drove in the first run of the afternoon with an RBI triple and later scored on a passed ball to make it, 2-0. Pitcher Anna Spragins then showed she is pretty effective with the bat, driving in two runs with a double to put the Roanoke Valley up four. Stephanie Rose drove in the final run of the inning with a double.
In the top of the third against Camden, Sawyer struck again, scoring a run to put her team up 6-0 and Ashley Delbridge pushed the lead to seven with a run. Camden finally got on the board with a run in the bottom of the third, but the Roanoke Valley team closed the game out in the top of the seventh. Kallie Smith hit a two RBI double and Mary Beth Woglemuth score the final run of the day for Roanoke Valley.
Game two versus Cashie was the type of game the fans expected. Cashie went ahead, 2-0, after a two run homer in the bottom of the first off Roanoke Valley pitcher Bailey Robinson. However, in the top of the fourth Rose used her speed to steal home and Sawyer tied the game at two with her third RBI of the day. A score on a passed ball put the Roanoke Valley all-stars up, 3-2, and they were three outs away from victory. But a routine play to first turned into an error that allowed Cashie to tie the game and force extra innings. In the extra inning Margaret Neville drove in the only run of the eight to secure the Roanoke Valley victory.
Now Cashie and Roanoke Valley, who have developed a little rivalry the past few years will meet again this morning at 10 for the district U16 title.
