WINDSOR — Fans who where taking in the Eastern North Carolina District 1 softball tournament in Windsor may have notice a lot of cheering  coming from the field the U10 championship game was being played on. And the cheering was very often and seemed to never stop. If that didn’t catch anyone’s attention, than perhaps the loud bang of a ball bouncing off one of the signs on the outfield fence did. That bang was another one of the Roanoke Valley U10 all-star teams hits bouncing off the sign and the cheering was from all the runs they scored in their, 21-3, victory over Currituck.

“We faced some good competition down here,” Head coach Bobby Martin said. “Our girls stepped their game up.”

Martin had a lot of girls on his roster who stepped up from the U8 division, which is machine pitched, into the U10.  “They helped our senior players advance,” Martin said. “We have meshed as a team.

Martin said before Sunday’s title game he wanted his girls to finish a perfect 3-0 and not have to play in the ‘if’ game Sunday afternoon.He never expected an 18 point victory. “I was shocked,” he said. “The bats were hot. They came alive and were hitting everything.”
