WILLIAMSTON — The Roanoke Valley U16 All-stars were eliminated from the state tournament yesterday after a , 3-0, loss to Henderson-Vance. It was the local squads second loss to the Henderson-Vance All-stars in the tournament. The game was scoreless until the fifth inning as neither team could manage to get anything going. The Henderson-Vance All-stars scored with a double and after getting up on the local team, all they had to do was hold off any comeback attempt by the Roanoke Valley All-stars.

“You don’t score, you don’t win,” Roanoke Valley Head coach Billy Smith said. “We have 12 or 13 strikeouts and we didn’t hit the ball and we caught a bad break in one inning.”

Anna Spragins and Bailey Robinson both saw action on the mound for the Roanoke Valley team, who has nine girls who will age out of the division next season. “I’m real proud of the girls,” Smith said. “All the way through the district they all did whatever I ask them to do. We just got a tough draw and ran into a super pitcher.”

Notes: The Roanoke Valley U14 All-stars were eliminated from the Eastern North Carolina state tournament with two tough loses Saturday in Williamston. The team fell to Pamlico, 8-3, in game one and then were defeated by Williamston, 10-1, in the elimination game.
