Prior to moving to Sea Level she lived for 29 years on Lake Gaston in Henrico.

Mary Ann was born Mary Ann Cash in Rockbridge County, Va. on Feb. 23, 1921.  She studied nursing in Charlottesville, Va., and was a practicing RN for 18 years in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia.  She married Leslie Norford Preddy, Lieutenant Commander in the US Naval Reserves, in 1943.  Mary Ann and Leslie had a son, James Norford Preddy, who died as a child.  Leslie preceded Mary Ann in death in 1970.

In 1981 she married Marshall England, disabled US Army.  He died in 1986.

Mary Ann loved taking care of the sick and she cherished the peace and quiet of life on Lake Gaston.  She was an excellent cook and spent a lot of time crocheting afghans and making quilts for family and friends.  She possessed a quick mind, had a great sense of humor, and loved to laugh.

Mary Ann is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Harry and Val Preddy of Beaufort; daughter, Ann Pierson of St. Petersburg, Fla..; grandson, David Pierson of St. Petersburg; granddaughter, Susan Pierson, of Charlotte; two step-granddaughters, Kristen Jordan of Halifax County, and Erica Sorensen-Williams of Beaufort; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date, and internment will be at Riverview Cemetery in Charlottesville.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that a donation be made to: Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601 or www.alz.org

Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City is handling the arrangements.
