Fleming graduates

Pastor Joyce Fleming graduated cum laude from Roanoke Theological Seminary in Elizabeth City, with the a Bachelor of Divinity. Commencement exercises were held at the K.E. White Graduate Center at the Elizabeth City State University campus. During her commute to Roanoke Theological Seminary, Fleming was supported by her husband, Deacon Gilbert Fleming, and her seven children, Coletta, Sharlynda, Christa, Gilmilia, Gilbert Jr., Joycelyn and Rachel; and eight grandchildren. She is the pastor of Word In Faith Ministries.

Hale graduates

J. Alexander Hale graduated  during the 120th commencement exercises at Woodberry Forest School on May 23. Hale will attend North Carolina State University.

He is the son of Mr. J. Kenneth Hale of Roanoke Rapids and Ms. Virginia Hale, also of Roanoke Rapids. Woodberry Forest School is a highly selective, independent boarding school in Madison County, Va., for 400 boys in grade 9-12 from 31 states, the District of Columbia and eight other countries.

Williams graduates

On May 16, Gerri Williams graduated from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, with her Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership.  Dr. Williams is a native of Seaboard and is the granddaughter of Clara Wilson of Seaboard.  Williams is a product of the Northampton County School System, where she graduated from Northampton County High School-East in 1995.  She received her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and her Master of Arts in Adult and Higher Education from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1999 and 2002, respectively. She has recently located back home to North Carolina, were she resides in Durham with her husband of 12 years, Shawn Williams, and daughter, Savannah Williams.

Garner recognized

In an Awards Day Convocation ceremony held in Turner Auditorium recently, Chowan University in Murfreesboro announced the winners of the annual student awards. The Excellence in Leadership – President Award  was given to  Bonnie Garner of Alpha Sigma Tau, a junior from Roanoke Rapids majoring in business administration

This award is presented to the president of an organization that best characterizes excellence in leadership at Chowan University.
