GARYSBURG — Mr. James Wesley Boone Jr., 86, of Garysburg, departed this life peacefully Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at the Medical College of Virginia Hospital in Richmond, Va.

He was born in Northampton County, a son of the late James Wesley and Betty Ransom Boone.

For 32 years, he worked for the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad from which he retired after many years of loyal service. He was also a World War II veteran and an active member of American Legion Post #407 in Weldon.

Mr. Boone is lovingly survived by his wife, Viola Pittman Boone of the home; his children, James S. Boone (Denise) of Charlotte, Reginald D. Boone of Rockville, Md., Bettye Jean “BJ” Powell (Carlie) of New Orleans, Victor Boone, Esq. (Rhonda) of Raleigh  and Brenda Hamilton (Vernon) of Richmond; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; his brother, Douglas Boone of Richmond; his sister, Alice Boone Lowe of Garysburg; his aunt, Minnie Boone Williams of Garysburg; his sisters-in-law, Geraldine Pittman Clark of Garysburg, Jean Boone and Mary Boone of Weldon and Barbara Boone of Atlanta; and many loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held at 12:30 p.m., prior to the funeral service at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 21, at Roanoke Chapel Baptist Church in Jackson, with the Rev. Dr. Franklin D. Williams Jr., pastor, delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Pittman Family Cemetery in Enfield.
