She was united in holy matrimony to John C. Carter, who preceded her in death on April 18, 2009. This union was blessed with two daughters. One daughter, Rachel Cooper, preceded her in death.
Those remaining to cherish the precious memories of her life are her daughter, Edith Coaxum (Edward) of Portsmouth, Va.; four grandchildren, Ellen Fauth, Theresh Quenery, Robert Cooper and Gerald Coaxum, all of Portsmouth; seven great-grandchildren; six sisters, Perlean Wilson and Lorene Pitchford of Norfolk, Va., Lucy Alston (William) of Portsmouth, Bessie Baxter (Pillip) of Virginia Beach, Va., Helena Coley (Louis) of Baltimore and Josebell Williams of Littleton; one brother, Maryland Hockaday Sr. (Mary) of Littleton; one sister-in-law, Geneva Jones of Henderson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
The body will repose until 8:30 p.m., Saturday, July 25, at Robinson Funeral Home in Littleton, which is handling the arrangements.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Sunday, July 26, at Olive Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Littleton, with the Rev. Charles E. Walton, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will also repose one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
