Blanchard recognized

The United States Achievement Academy announced that Ashley Blanchard from Roanoke Rapids has been recognized  for academic achievement as a United States National Honor Student Award winner. Blanchard, who will be attending Roanoke Rapids High School this year, will appear in the United States Achievement Academy’s Official yearbook which is published nationally.

She is the daughter of Brian and Wanda Blanchard of Roanoke Rapids, and the granddaughter of Frank and Martha Blanchard and Ann Barnes and the late Granger Barnes.

Eure serves as Governor’s Page

Colyn Eure served the week of July 13 as a governor’s page out of the office of Gov. Bev Perdue. While in Raleigh, Eure was assigned to the Budget and Finance Department, where he performed various clerical duties, as well as attending committee meetings held by the governor. He also had the opportunity to sit with Perdue and discuss issues facing the state of North Carolina. Throughout the week the attendees toured state buildings, local attractions and served on community projects. While in Raleigh, Eure stayed with a local host family.

Clements completes advanced training

Berquela Clements graduated from Northampton County High School-West in Gaston in 2006 and attended North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro. Pvt. Clements was stationed at the Greensboro Recruiting Station from July 10-24. She is the daughter of Victoria Godineaux of Garysburg. Since completing basic training at Ft. Jackson, S.C., she also completed five weeks of advanced individual training at Ft. Lee, Va. Her occupational specialty is a shower/laundry and clothing repair specialist. She will receive the Montgomery G.I. Bill in the amount of $38,628 and an enlistment bonus in the amount of $8,000.
