Education in the Valley Local student serves as page RALEIGH — The North Carolina Senate was honored recently to have Mesha Winford, a student at Southeast Halifax High School, serve as a page. She is the daughter of James L. and Bettie Battle of Enfield. Winford was sponsored by Sen. Edward Jones and appointed by the Senate President pro Tempore, Marc Basnight. Statewide high school students in grades 9 through 12 serve as pages when the General Assembly is in session. They perform valuable duties for the senator and their office staff. They attend daily Senate sessions, committee meetings and assist staff members with office duties during the week they serve in the Legislature. Joint RRHS reunion A joint Roanoke Rapids High School reunion is scheduled with the classes of 1984, 1985 and 1986 on Saturday, Sept. 12, at Chockoyotte Country Club.
