Willie Merit Flythe

CHURCH HILL, Tenn. — Mr. Willie Merit Flythe, 81, of Church Hill, Tenn., passed away Friday July 31, 2009, at his residence.

Born in Conway, Willie made his home in Hampton, Va., for more than 36 years and later moved to Tennessee.

He served in the United States. Navy. Willie was retired. He was an owner of a hairstylist and general contracting business. He was the oldest member of Temple of God in Greeneville, Tenn.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hazel Flythe; his second wife, Dora Flythe; his third wife, Syble Flythe; his parents, William Merit and Elma Johnson Flythe; one sister, Jeanette Wheeler; five brothers, Leon Flythe, Travis Flythe, Simon Flythe, Tony Flythe and Larry Flythe; and one grandson, Travis Flythe.

He is survived by his sons, Kent Flythe of Seaford, Va., Dan Spell of Church Hill and Bill Castle and his wife, Sandy, of Greeneville; five grandchildren, Missy, Kelly, Pam, Brian and Travis; three great grandchildren, Levy, Ethan and Travis; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 2, at Scott County Funeral Home, 2060 U.S. Highway 23 N, Weber City, Va., which is handling the arrangements. A funeral service will follow at 4 p.m., in the chapel of the funeral home, with Rev. D. L. Cutshaw and Rev. Wayne Meade officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 4, at Milwaukee Cemetery in Milwaukee, with the Rev. Ed Drew officiating.
