ROANOKE RAPIDS — Mr. Arthur Esmond Elliott, 90, of Roanoke Rapids, passed away Monday, Aug. 3, 2009, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

He was born Oct. 25, 1918, in Rich Square, the son of the late Chester Arthur Elliott and Geneva Betty Boyd Elliott. He was also preceded in death by a brother, James T. Elliott; and a sister, Odie E. Trotter. Mr. Elliott was a member of First United Methodist Church in Roanoke Rapids. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army in the North African, Sicilian and Italian campaigns. He was a mechanic at Kline Chevrolet in Norfolk, Va., for 34 years before retiring to Rich Square.

Mr. Elliott is survived by his wife of 67 years, Margaret Eye Elliott; two children, Janice E. Light and her husband, H. Darrell Light, of Foley, Ala., and Bradley A. Elliott and his wife, Diane T. Elliott, of Roanoke Rapids; six grandchildren, David A. Light, Sara L. Wellman, Joel T. Elliott, James P. Elliott, Rebekah K. Elliott and Maria E. Davis; and one great-grandchild, Jadon M. Davis.

A visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m., today, Aug. 5, at Wrenn, Clarke, & Hagan Funeral and Cremation Service in Roanoke Rapids, which is handling the arrangements.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 6, at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. C.B. Owens officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Rich Square.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church.
