‘Telling Our Stories’ exhibit at Scotland Neck Library
Gives new view of N.C.

RALEIGH — Visitors to the Scotland Neck Memorial Library, 1600 Main St., can see North Carolina as they’ve never seen it before in the “Telling Our Stories” Photography exhibit, Aug. 10-31.  The exhibit includes 50 images from the state’s mountains to the coast that show different events and time periods.  An opening talk/reception will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 13.

 Organized by the N.C. Department of Cultural Resources, www.ncculture.com, the exhibition incorporates 21 images from some of the state’s best professional photographers, 11 from top winners of Our State, www.OurState.com, magazine’s 2008 photography contest and for the first time, 18 photographs from the state archives are on tour, www.ncculture.com/TOS_2008/TOS_home.asp.

The State Library of North Carolina contacted public libraries to display the exhibit, which is traveling an eastern and western route through December.

Tom Braswell of Wilson is among the professional photographers exhibited.

Two  photographs from the state archives  are Tobacco Queen from Wilson, circa 1941, and Barbecue over open pit, at Braswell Plantation near Rocky Mount, circa 1944.

Images from the professional photographers include scenes from the U.S. and abroad.  Striking images of people, places and nature from near and far await viewers.

Patrons have enjoyed the exhibit.  Among comments written in Edgecombe County were “Wonderful exhibit,” “Very interesting artwork,” and from McDowell County, “We enjoyed the exhibit.  Thank you.”
