Miss Wood becomes the bride of Adam Price Mathes on Aug. 15

Sarah Lynn Wood of Atlanta and Adams Price Mathes of Smyrna, Ga., exchanged wedding vows during a 5 p.m. ceremony on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at First United Methodist Church in Roanoke Rapids.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael W. Wood of Skippers, Va., formerly of Roanoke Rapids. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Whalon H. Robinson Sr. of Skippers and the late Mr. and Mrs. Van T. Wood of Gaston.

The bridegroom is the son of Mrs. Adeline P. Mathes and Mr. Richard L. Knittel of Atlanta, the Rev. Dr. Benjamin C. Mathes Sr. of Dawsonville, Ga., and Dr. Mickie Y. Mathes of Doha Qatar. He is the grandson of Mrs. Adelyn Price and the late Mr. Thomas E. Price of Columbia, S.C., and Dr. and Mrs. Gordon L. Mathes Sr. of Memphis, Tenn.

The Rev. Bruce Allen Vaughan III performed the nuptial ceremony.

A program of wedding music was provided by North Carolina Strings, a string trio of Raleigh.

Presented in marriage by her father, the bride wore a Mori Lee radiant taffeta white gown featuring asymmetrical draping which formed the V-neckline and cascaded over the torso of this elegant fitted and flared gown with chapel-length train.

For her headpiece, the bride wore a simple fingertip-length veil. She carried a hand-tied bouquet of white roses surrounded by white hydrangea with greens.

Mrs. Lauren Carr Harris of Youngsville, college roommate of the bride, served as matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Chrissa Royer Wood, of Wake Forest, sister-in-law of the bride, Miss Jessica LeAnn Harrell of Scotland Neck, future sister-in-law of the bride, Mrs. Bonnie Ann Mathes of Costa Mesa, Calif., sister-in-law of the bridegroom, Mrs. Shelley Robinson Elliot of Skippers, cousin of the bride, and Mrs. Keeva Tate Cook of Raleigh and Mrs. Amy Hawkins Walker of Holly Springs, both friends of the bride. Junior bridesmaids were Miss Sarah Alexander Adams and Miss Rebekah Keith Adams, both of Columbia and cousins of the bridegroom.

Serving as flower girls were Miss Anna Katherine Adams of Columbia, cousin of the bridegroom, and Miss Anna Lillian Wood of Wake Forest, niece of the bride.

Mr. Benjamin Cooper Mathes Jr. of Costa Mesa, brother of the bridegroom, served as best man. Groomsmen were Mr. Matthew Michael Wood of Wake Forest and Mr. Brent Thomas Wood of Skippers, both brothers of the bride, Mr. Matthew Newton Sprouse of Knoxville, Tenn., cousin of the bridegroom, and Gunnery Sgt. Michael James Mella of Douglasville, Ga., Gunnery Sgt. John Patrick Saul of Jacksonville and Capt. William Lafayette Vaughan who is stationed on USS Comstock, all friends of the bridegroom. Junior groomsmen were Master Raymond Price Willoch of Atlanta, cousin of the  bridegroom, and Joshua Allen Vaughan of San Clemente, Calif., friend of the bridegroom.

Serving as ushers and sword detail were Capt. Luke McConnell, Capt. Brian Von Krauss, Capt. Bryan Abell, Capt. Alexander Martin, Capt. Doug Orr, Capt. Mike Geiger and Capt. Chris Larson.

Miss Kimberly B. Carroll and Miss Erika L. Mahone, both of Atlanta and friends of the bride, served as mistress of ceremonies. Program attendants were Miss Somer Privette and Miss Ashlee Price. Guest book attendants were Miss Kendra Gurkin and Miss Jill Wooten.

The bride is a graduate of Meredith College in Raleigh with a Master’s from UNC Chapel Hill. She is a speech pathologist with Kennesaw High School in Kennesaw, Ga.

The bridegroom graduated from the University of Georgia and served five years in the United States Marine Corps. He served as vice president of Business Development for Prime Power Services in Atlanta. He will be entering seminary at Emory University in Atlanta at the end of August 2009.

After a honeymoon to Taos, New Mexico, the couple will live in Smyrna.

A reception was hosted by the bride’s parents at the  Chockoyotte Country Club in Weldon. The event was catered by david’s restaurant and music was provided by DJ Chase Givens. Cake was served by Mrs. Sandy Ligon and Miss Julie Anna Dimmock. Guests were greeted by Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan Hoyle.

An after-rehearsal dinner was hosted by the bridegroom’s mother and stepfather, Mrs. Adeline Mathes and M. Richard Knittel, at Watersview Restaurant in Littleton.

A miscellaneous shower was given on June 6, hosted by Mrs. Margaret Robinson, Mrs. Shelley Elliott, Mrs. Leesa Daughtry, Miss Laura Daughtry and Miss Caroline Daughtry, at the home of Mrs. Shelley Elliott in Skippers.

An engagement party was hosted by the bridegroom’s mother and stepfather, Mrs. Adeline Mathes and Mr. Richard Knittel, on June 26 at their home in Atlanta.

On July 18 a lingerie shower was given by Mrs. Lauren Harris, Mrs. Chrissa Wood, Miss Jessi Harrell, Mrs. Amy Walker, Mrs. Keeva Cook and Mrs. Laura Hoyle, at the home of Mrs. Lauren Harris in Youngsville.

A luncheon and bridal shower was given on Aug. 2 and hosted by Mrs. Florrie Willoch, Mrs. Amy Cox and Ms. Kimberly Carroll, at the home of Mrs. Florrie Willoch in Atlanta.

A bridesmaids breakfast was given on Aug. 15, the day of the wedding, and hosted by Mrs. Barbara Roach, Ms. Kathy White and Ms. Danita Barnes, at the home of Mrs. Barbara Roach in Roanoke Rapids.

Wedding day refreshments were provided for the wedding party at the church. This was hosted by Mrs. Susan Watson and Mrs. Diane Bruton.
