Halifax County Tourism faces the world of social media by Special to the Daily HeraldThe Halifax County Convention and Visitors Bureau is putting its best face forward. The CVB has stepped into the world of social networking by creating and maintaining a page on the popular social media site Facebook under the name Halifax County N.C. Visitors Center. “Social media has the awesome ability to engage your audience in meaningful conversations about your product,” said Lori Medlin, executive director of the Halifax County CVB. “The best way to look at social media is to view it as one of many Internet marketing channels, one that has amazing power to go viral.” The CVB’s Facebook page currently has more than 180 fans, and the CVB is striving to continually add to that fan base as yet another means of keeping local citizens and potential visitors up-to-date on all that Halifax County has to offer. The Halifax County CVB Board of Directors felt that adding Facebook to the CVB’s marketing arsenal was an important step to take in moving Halifax County forward as a modern travel destination. The speed with which information can be communicated regarding news, events, and updates is much of the appeal of social networking. The fact of the matter is that social networking works. In a study conducted by Opinion Research Corporation in September 2008 about Americans who use social media sites, it was learned that 56 percent say they feel a stronger connection with and better served by companies when they can interact with them in a social media environment. The Halifax County CVB is regularly updating and adding content to the Facebook page. Some of the page content includes photo albums with images of area attractions, links to various Web sites with information about Halifax County, event notices, news reels, interesting area commentary and discussions. For those already on Facebook, the Halifax County CVB would like to invite them to become fans. The CVB page can be accessed directly at www.facebook.com/visithalifax. For those not ready for the social networking aspect, continue to get the latest information on area attractions, accommodations and events at www.visithalifax.com. |
