Jordan Marie Poythress Valley’s Junior Miss

ROANOKE RAPIDS — A year of hard work and countless hours of study, rehearsal and effort came down to a single night Saturday. At the end of the evening, the audience was applauding and Jordan Marie Poythress was Roanoke Valley Junior Miss 2010.

Joining Poythress in the royal court were first runner up Katlyn Michelle Moseley and second runner up Emily Virginia Bratton.

It was all part of the 21st year of the Roanoke Valley Junior Miss Scholarship Program. This year 14 young women participated in the program which includes community service, educational opportunities and special events throughout the year leading up to the final night.

This year’s finale was at The Centre at Halifax Community College and featured “Groovin’ to Hot Latin Rhythms” as its theme.

The contestants were judged on a variety of attributes including talent, fitness and self-expression. Their educational performance and community activities also play a role in the judging.

A senior at Roanoke Rapids High School, Poythress is the daughter of John and Tina Poythress. She plans on studying pediatric endocrinology at either University of North Carolina Chapel Hill or Wake Forest University.

For her talent presentation she did an acrobatic routine to the “James Bond Remix” by Moby.

Moseley is a student at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics. The daughter of Chris and Michelle Moseley she plans on attending Davidson College and hopes to become a federal judge. Her talent performance was a lyrical dance to “Stand by Rascal Flats.”

The daughter of Tim and Carolyn Bratton, Emily attends Roanoke Rapids High School. She plans on studying trust management at Campbell University. Saturday night, she performed a tap dance to “Trickle Trickle.”
