Couple wed during 2 p.m. ceremony on July 11

Tammy Edwards Blanton and Shelton Maloy Jenkins, both of Roanoke Rapids, exchanged wedding vows during a 2 p.m. ceremony on Saturday, July 11, 2009, at South Rosemary United Methodist Church in Roanoke Rapids.

The bride is the daughter of Ms. Alice Edwards of Ebony, Va., and Mr. Jasper Edwards of Emporia, Va.

The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Jenkins of Roanoke Rapids.

The Rev. Sandra Mull performed the nuptial ceremony.

A program of wedding music was provided by Marsha Allsbrook of Roanoke Rapids, pianist, and Tammie Ferrell of Littleton, soloist.

Given in marriage by Cody House, the bride wore an ivory chiffon slim gown with a beaded empire waist and halter.

For her headpiece, she wore an ivory one-piece shoulder-length, one tier veil. She carried a bouquet of flowers featuring ivory and pink roses with baby’s breath. The flowers were designed by Gloria Lloyd, cousin of the bride.

Audrey House of White Plains, Va., sister of the bride, served as maid of honor. Serving as bridesmaid was Marlena Birdsong of Roanoke Rapids, friend of the bride.

Serving as flower girl was Kallie Barnes of Roanoke Rapids, friend of the bride.

James Jenkins of Roanoke Rapids served as his son’s best man. Serving as groomsman was Timothy Skipper of Roanoke Rapids, friend of the bridegroom. Ushers were Douglas Love of Pleasant Hill and Jonathan Smith of Roanoke Rapids, friends of the bridegroom.

Angela Whitby of Weldon served as mistress of ceremonies.

The bride is a 1997 graduate of Brunswick Senior High School in Lawrenceville, Va. She will be attending Edgecombe Community College in Rocky Mount, where she was accepted into the Respiratory Therapy program for fall 2009. She is currently employed with Dr. Maurice Davis in Weldon.

The bridegroom is a 1988 graduate of Halifax Academy in Roanoke Rapids. He is currently employed at Edgecombe Genco LLC in Rocky Mount.

After a honeymoon in Myrtle Beach, S.C., the couple now reside in Roanoke Rapids.

A reception was held following the ceremony at the South Rosemary United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.

An after-rehearsal dinner was held at the South Rosemary United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall and given by Mr. and Mrs. James Jenkins.

A bachelorette party was held on June 6 at The Lake House in Henrico and given by Marlena Birdsong.

Hilda Jenkins hosted a pantry shower on April 4 at South Rosemary United Methodist Church.

Alice Edwards and Audrey House hosted a miscellaneous shower on May 24 at the Ebony Volunteer Fire Department in Ebony, Va.
