JACKSON — Mrs. Bernice Nelson Bryant Millar, 90, died Friday, Sept. 4, 2009.

She was born May 14, 1919, in Northampton County, to Maggie Virginia Collier Nelson and Charles Wesley Nelson.  Mrs. Millar was employed with Carolina Telephone and Telegraph Company from 1948 until her retirement in 1979.  During that time she was relocated from Rich Square to Williamston, and finally to Rocky Mount. She was a committed Christian who was active in churches wherever she lived. 

Mrs. Millar was preceded in death by her parents and her stepfather, Logan Nathaniel Collier; her husbands, Gilbert Millard Bryant and Dell Webb Millar; and by her brother, James Richard Nelson. 

She is survived by two daughters, Jeanne Bryant Wood (husband, Lloyd Phillip Wood) and Roxanna Bryant Kerley (husband, Nelson Glenn Kerley); a brother, Dr. Luther Sullivan Nelson; two grandchildren, Lt. Col. Nelson Glenn Kerley Jr. (wife, Ruth) and Valerie Kerley Morris (husband, Robbie); and five great-grandchildren, Tyler Glenn King, Brittany Bryant King, Logan Pearce Kerley, Troy Bryant Kerley and Sullivan Gram Kerley.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Monday, Sept. 7, at Jackson Methodist Church in Jackson, with the Rev. Warren Heitzenrater officiating. Burial will follow in the Town of Conway Cemetery in Conway.

The family will receive friends at 2 p.m, prior to the funeral service, at the church.

Massey Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
