Leon Justice Walker CANDLER — Leon Justice Walker, 83, of Candler, died Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, at Pisgah Manor Nursing Home. Mr. Walker was born May 8, 1926, the son of the late Daniel Jackson Walker and Gracie Fletcher Walker of Vaughan. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon Willis Walker of Littleton and Edward Jackson Walker of Vaughan; and a sister, Dorothy W. Callihan of Newport News, Va. Mr. Walker was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II, serving in the European Theater and the Korean Conflict, retiring after 13 years of service as a Technical Sergeant. He worked at Fort Eustus in Virginia as a Post Engineer until 1981. He retired again and moved to the mountains of North Carolina to enjoy being known as “Gram” to his grandchildren and enjoy a “little” fishing. Mr. Walker is survived by his wife of 55 years, Billie Jones Walker; one daughter, Teresa Elliot Cannon and her husband, Eric, of Lenoir; his grandson, David Elliot of Newport News; his granddaughter, Jamie Wooten Hensley and her husband, David, of Canton; three great-granddaughters, Kira Wooten, Ellie Hensley and Maddie Hensley; his brothers, Ollie M. Walker of Norwood and John R. Walker of Rolling Prairie, Ind.; his sisters, Mary West and Margaret Aycock, both of Littleton, Virginia Harris of Raleigh and Jane Stansbury of Littleton; and also many nieces and nephews. Asheville Funeral and Cremation Services handled the arrangements. A memorial service will be held at a later date. |
