His formal education began in the Halifax County Public School System. He attended Northwest High School in Littleton, until he decided to complete his high school education at Northern Nash High School in Rocky Mount.
Chavalis loved life. He was always happy, loved to have fun, enjoyed riding his dirt bike and four wheeler, bowling, and family cook-outs. He was loved unconditionally and will truly be missed beyond measure.
In addition to his parents, those left to also cherish the precious memories of his life are his sister, Demetria Leticia, and his brother, Charles, Jr. of the home; his maternal grandmother, Nettie Marie Banks of Roanoke Rapids; three aunts, Brenda Pleasants (Darryl Dean) of Greensboro, Jacqueline Bowser (Clayton) and Doris Annette Burgess of Roanoke Rapids; six uncles, Larry D. Banks of Durham, and Gilbert Lee Banks, Fred Lee Boyd (Carolyn), William L. Boyd (Bessie), the Rev. Clinton Boyd (Jeanette), and Dennis James Boyd (Josephine) all of Roanoke Rapids; one great-aunt, Florence Sterling (Isaac) of Fort Washington, Md.; one great-great-aunt, Josephine B. Lee of Littleton; one niece, Kenya Makayla Boyd of Roanoke Rapids; one nephew, Deondre’ Dewayne Durham of Roanoke Rapids; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends who will all miss him deeply.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 12, at William R. Davie Middle School, 4391 Highway 158, Roanoke Rapids. The Rev. Clinton Boyd will officiate and burial will follow in the Simmon Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Roanoke Rapids.
