Woman kidnapped, assaulted and abandoned in Halifax County

ROANOKE RAPIDS — The Halifax County Sheriff’s Department is looking for a man who kidnapped, assaulted and left a Wayne County woman on the side o f Interstate 95 early this morning.

About 4:30 a.m., Trooper Tara Davis received a call there was a broken down or abandoned vehicle on I-95 near the Highway 561 exit. Davis approached the vehicle and found a 32-year old woman unconscious in the car. EMS was called and she was transported to Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Detective Bobby Martin said the woman is from Wayne County, and earlier in the day, an unknown man had kidnapped her and made her get on I-95 and drive. The car ran out of gas, and she was found was where it stopped. The man apparently hit her and knocked her out.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5-feet-5-inches to 5-feet-7 inches tall, wearing a green shirt and brown khaki cargo pants. His hair is blonde and grayish and thinning. He has a missing tooth on the top left. Police were still looking for him at press time.
