ROCKY MOUNT — Fannie Bell Long Jones, 88, left for her heavenly home Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, after a short illness.

Fannie was born July 28, 1921, in Wilson County, daughter of the late William Columbus Long and Sudie Whitley Long. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Edward Franklin, Thomas Elwood, William Floyd and Walter Bennett; a sister, Edna Mae; her stepmother, Sudie Reese; a half-sister, Mattie Hux; her and half-brothers, George Robert Long and Robert Lee Long.

Fannie worked at Rocky Mount Cotton Mills for 25 years.  She was a longtime member of Sharpsburg Baptist Church.  Her favorite vacations were spent camping in the Great Smokey Mountains and in Boone. She really loved her flowers.  She was always faithful, attending any activities that involved her grandson and great-granddaughters. She was especially known for her great fried chicken and the best banana pudding ever. Ben and Dakota, her two dogs, held a special place in her heart.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband of 68 years, Harding Wilson Jones of the home; a daughter, Barbara Jones Dupree and her husband, Kirby; a grandson, Jonathan Daniel Evans and his wife, Kim; and great-granddaughters, Anna Danielle Evans and Jenna Nicole Evans, all of Rocky Mount; Fannie will also be remembered by several loving nieces and nephews.

 The family will receive friends and relatives from 7 to 8:30 p.m., today, Sept. 30, at Sharpsburg Baptist Church, and other times at the home.

 A service to celebrate Fannie’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 1, at the church, with the Rev. Elwood Long and the Rev. Billy Webb officiating. Burial will follow in Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
