LITTLETON — Charlie McWilliams departed this earthly life Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009, at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.

He was born Jan. 2, 1926, in Halifax County, to the late George McWilliams and Priscilla Lynch McWilliams. During his early life, he became a member of Springfield Baptist Church in Littleton. His formal education was received in the Halifax County Public School System.

He was employed in the farming industry most of his life and enjoyed listening to gospel music.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Pauline Harvey, Minnie Higgs, Mabel Hubbard and Mattie Mae McWilliams; three brothers, Jimmy McWilliams, Bennie McWilliams and Gid McWilliams; six nephews, Jeffro Harvey, Charles Davis, Calvin Harvey, Junious George McWilliams, Cornelius Davis and Eugene McWilliams; and two nieces, Jean Stacker and Elaine M. Ricks.

Those left to forever cherish the precious memory of his life are his sisters, Maggie Harvey of Smithfield, Pattie Davis of Roanoke Rapids and Minister Helena M. Johnson of Weldon; two brothers, Robert Louis McWilliams of Norfolk, Va., and George Mae McWilliams of Rocky Mount; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m., today, Oct. 2, at Robinson Funeral Home in Littleton, which is handling the arrangements.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 3, at Spring Hope Baptist Church in Halifax, with Rev. John R. Rooks, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Springfield Baptist Church Cemetery in Littleton.
