ROANOKE RAPIDS — Mary Rue Stansbury Bell, 80, of Roanoke Rapids, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009, at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mrs. Bell was also a member of Community Center Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Lee and Etta Mae Stansbury; her husband, Lee Bell; a son, David Bell, a daughter-in-law, Robin Jones Bell; her brothers, Willis, Horace and Alvin Stansbury; and her sisters, Mae Lynch and Polly Wilson.

She is survived by her daughter, Sylvia Newsom and her husband, David; her sons, James and William Bell; her grandchildren, James Bell ll, Stephanie Bell, Crystal Bell, Suzanne Forte and Sam Bell; four great-grandchildren; her daughter-in-law, Hazel Bell of Roanoke Rapids; her sisters, Katherine Faison and her husband, Marlyn, of Roanoke Rapids, Lovelle “Bell” Gray of Roanoke Rapids and Bessie Bennett of Goldsboro; her sisters-in-law, Jean Stansbury of Roanoke Rapids, Dorothy Bell Matthews and her husband, Gerald, of Rolesville and Daisy Bell Welch and her husband, Rob, of Charleston, S.C.; her brother, Roy Stansbury of Roanoke Rapids; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 5, at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service in Roanoke Rapids, which is handling the arrangements.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., today, Oct. 6, in the chapel of the funeral home, with the Rev. C.B. Owens officiating. Burial will follow in the Community Center Baptist Church Cemetery in Halifax.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rheasville Volunteer Fire Department, 3456 Highway 158, Roanoke Rapids NC 27870.
