GASTON — Betty L. Smith Bynum, 63, of Gaston, died Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009, at her home.

She was retired from Cracker Barrel in Roanoke Rapids.

She is survived by her children, Teelezyne B. Anderson (Steve) of Wake Forest, James Bynum Jr. of Garysburg and Augustus Bynum (Benita) of Bunn; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; her stepmother, Geneva M. Smith of Gaston; two sisters, Roberta Johnson (John) of Clementon, N.J., and Attemerell Smith of Henrico; eight brothers, Jesse Smith (Sue), Chester Smith (Marie) and Arthur Smith (Beatrice), all of Philadelphia, Linwood Smith (Cobi) of Willow Springs, Pa., and Ronald W. Smith (Vanessa), Timothy Smith (Levella), Verman Smith (Hazel) and Thurman Smith (Linda), all of Gaston; and her adopted family, Reginald and Sheila Ward and family of Roanoke Rapids.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 20, at Cool Spring Missionary Baptist Church in Gaston, with Pastor Dennis Wooten officiating. Interment will follow in the Gus Smith Family Cemetery in Gaston.

Cofield Mortuary in Weldon is handling the arrangements.
