Margaret Long Johnson

ROANOKE RAPIDS — Margaret Long Johnson, 92, of 713 East 12th St., died Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Johnson was born Sept. 23, 1917, in Northampton County, to the late Lee Long and Ruth Maddrey Long. She was a charter member and lifelong member of Park Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school for 50 years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Lewis Dalton Johnson.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by her sons, Phillip Johnson and his wife, Cathy, of Roanoke Rapids and Wayne Johnson and his wife, Trudy, of Jeffersonton, Va.; her grandchildren, Tim Johnson, Renee’ Johnson, Jeanette Rigby, Justine Bridges and Chrissy Bridges; and her great-grandchildren, Justice, Charity and Hope  Johnson.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m.,  Wednesday, Oct. 28, at Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids, and other times at the home. 

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 29, at Park Baptist Church, with Dr. Julian  Mills officiating. Burial will follow in Seaboard Cemetery.
