HAMILTON, N.J. — Margaret L. Colvin, 60, of Hamilton, N.J., died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at home.

Born in Roanoke Rapids, Mrs. Colvin was a longtime area resident. She retired from the State of New Jersey Department of Education with more than 30 years of service in November 2008.

She was a member of Trenton Deliverance Center since 1978 and recently moved her membership to Kingdom Church in Ewing. She had a passion for children and was a foster mother to many. She was the daughter of the late Thomas M. Davis.

She is survived by her son, Michael Colvin and his wife, Mirika; her mother, Arlene F. Davis of Roanoke Rapids; her former husband and lifelong companion, Major Colvin; her foster children, Rashawn, Antoine, David and LaToya; six grandchildren, Andre Jackson, Marissa and Mikaela Colvin, Niya and Sasha Pressley and Quwshawn Colvin; four sisters, Carolyn F. Hines, Maxine Johnson (Walter), all of Roanoke Rapids, Pearlie M. Bronner and Arlene Ellis-Jones (Joseph) all of Lawrenceville, N.J.; four brothers, Thomas J. Davis Jr. (Sadie), Cornelius Davis (Robin), Dennis R. Davis (Priscilla) and Cecil M. Davis (Carrie); one aunt, Margaret Wilson, all of Roanoke Rapids; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 30, Trenton Deliverance Center, 1100 S. Clinton Ave., Trenton, N.J. Interment followed in Greenwood Cemetery.

Campbell Funeral Chapel in Trenton handled the arrangements.
