The North Carolina legislature established a “sales tax holiday” for those Energy star-certified products in 2008. Each year, the holiday starts the first Friday (at 12:01 a.m.) in November and ends the following Sunday. It’s similar to the school supplies sales-tax holiday in August, only it’s Energy Star appliances that get the exemption in November.
With the recent increase in North Carolina sales tax, customer savings will be even higher and many area appliance centers are having additional sales to encourage customers to take the plunge this weekend.
Appliance Sales Associate Lakeyon Harrison of Lowe’s Home Improvements Center said Lowe’s has reduced prices on all their appliances this weekend in honor of the holiday. “We’ve even got the curly light bulbs on sale,” he said.
Christian Tillery at Sears said even though they will honor the sales tax holiday starting Friday, their sale starts Saturday. He said they’ve got some terrific buys, especially for their in-store account holders. They and all other appliance retailers will honor the tax-free holiday starting Friday.
Carolyn Whitehead at Schewel’s said customers can go online to their Web site to download Internet coupons for special savings this weekend in addition to the sales tax holiday.
Energy Star products are designed to reduce energy consumption and utility bills. Using these “green” products are proven to help homes run more efficiently and provide year round savings.
