Tree across 5th Street causes outages by Roger BellThe Daily Herald Staff Writer ROANOKE RAPIDS — Public works closed a block of East 5th Street near the intersection of Raleigh Street due to a tree which fell across a power line. Heavy rain and high winds conspired to cause the incident, which left a small section of Roanoke Rapids temporarily without power. Officials from Charter Communications and Dominion North Carolina Power were on scene trying to determine the best course of action to dispose of the tree. Roanoke Rapids Public Works official Danny Acree was also on the scene to oversee the street closure and monitor the tree’s disposal. |
