Bank robbery suspect on the run

ROANOKE RAPIDS — More information has been released in the description of the man who held up a bank Thursday afternoon.

This is a still photo from surveillance video of the armed bank robbery at the New Republic Bank in Roanoke Rapids Thursday shortly after 3 p.m. Roanoke Rapids Police Capt. Andy Jackson described the suspect as a black male about 6 foot, 2 inches tall, approximately 155 pounds, wearing dark pants, dark coat and a light colored hooded shirt. A witness at the scene told police the suspect was wearing classic black Reebok shoes and spoke with a Northern accent. The suspect was last seen going in the direction of Quail Court Apartments. A witness told police the suspect was wearing black classic Reebok shoes and spoke with a Northern accent.

Roanoke Rapids Police Capt. Andy Jackson said the New Republic Bank, located at Becker Drive and Old Farm Road, was held up at gunpoint Thursday shortly after 3 p.m.

Jackson added a black male about 6 foot, 2 inches tall, approximately 155 pounds, wearing dark pants, dark coat and a light colored hooded shirt walked into the bank with a semi-automatic handgun and demanded money.

The robber walked out of the bank with several thousand dollars. The suspect fled on foot and was seen going in the direction of Quail Court Apartments.

    " you can tell christmas time is coming alot of houses are getting broke into and people getting robbed.. and now the banks.... businesses will proabably start getting hit soon "
