The Chargers went 9-1 overall this season and 6-0 in the Tar Roanoke Conference. Their only loss came early in the season to Harrell’s Christian. However, Weldon had a few scares along the way to another Tar-Roanoke conference title. The Panthers of KIPP Pride played the Chargers as hard as anyone has for one quarter and Southeast Halifax had the lead at the end of the first half.
Weldon known for their never quit attitude, fought back and pulled out the victories at the end. “We worked on some things this week you know we got a late start in both games, but you know playoffs is not the time to be making costly mistakes,” said Head coach Grady Williams.
Weldon’s defense will have to pick it up a notch, when the Redskins run the double Wing-T.
On the other hand the Charger offense will be a handful of their own with offensive lineman such as Kyman Northington, Tyrelle Brack and Jamal Walker, a group which has worked hard all season. “Man, I’ll tell you those guys have worked hard and played even harder,” Williams said. “They have really done an outstanding job for us.”
Other weapons in the offensive arsenal are running backs Joseph McGee, Chris Lynch and Semaj Coleman and wide receiver Nehamiah Pulley.
The obstacle though that both teams will face is having to play in heavy rain that has saturated the entire state of North Carolina. “ It’s going to be a little awkward, but hey this is football,” said Williams.
