Weldon loses in overtime 28-22

Weldon-- There was no lack of excitement in the Midget League championship game where Roanoke Rapids won 28-22 in OT yesterday at Weldon.

 When it comes to the Chargers and Yellow Jackets there is always fireworks as both squads battle it out on the gridiron whether it’s Middle, J.V or Varsity football. Nor did the Midget teams disappoint when the game went into overtime when the Jackets tied the game at 22 with 12.3 ticks left in regulation after being behind the entire game.

  With only two seconds on the clock in the first quarter the Jackets  scored, plus a two point conversion  made it an 8-0 ball game at the end of one.

 Not to be out done it took the Chargers took all of four plays to get into the endzone, plus the conversion to knot it up at 8.

 Roanoke Rapids scored another touchdown but it was the Chargers that began to find a grove to lead 22-14. The Jackets however, did not give up and scored a touchdown with just seconds remaining. A successful two point conversion attempt made it a tie game at 22.

 The Jackets scored on the third playof overtime and won the game when Weldon fumbled the ball on their possession. To give the Jackets the Title of League champions
