When it comes to the Chargers and Yellow Jackets there is always fireworks as both squads battle it out on the gridiron whether it’s Middle, J.V or Varsity football. Nor did the Midget teams disappoint when the game went into overtime when the Jackets tied the game at 22 with 12.3 ticks left in regulation after being behind the entire game.

With only two seconds on the clock in the first quarter the Jackets  scored, plus a two point conversion  made it an 8-0 ball game at the end of one.

Not to be out done it took the Chargers took all of four plays to get into the endzone, plus the conversion to knot it up at 8.

Roanoke Rapids scored another touchdown but it was the Chargers that began to find a grove to lead 22-14. The Jackets however, did not give up and scored a touchdown with just seconds remaining. A successful two point conversion attempt made it a tie game at 22.

The Jackets scored on the third playof overtime and won the game when Weldon fumbled the ball on their possession. To give the Jackets the Title of League champions

    " Leslie,
Why is it always animosity when it comes to Weldon? I will say both teams played a good game, but was it fair. The title says that Weldon loses in overtime play. They lost. Ask yourself why weren't there a picture in the paper of the Roanoke Rapids Midget Team. All I am gonna say is "Be True To Yourself". I am still laughing about the whole situation. "

" WHY does the headline and nearly the whole article reflect on Weldon? The Title should READ: Jackets Prevail over Chargers. These boys worked hard and played a wonderful football season with dedication and determination to win. This is a Roanoke Rapids paper is it not? You have to read the entire article almost to even see who the Chargers played and lost to. Also, where is the championship picture of our boys that was taken on the field with the trophy? I want to thank George Collins and Brian Bohannon and Kelly Shepard for their hard work and love for our boys to teach them how to play ball and conduct themselves in a respectful manner to other teams.
