ROANOKE RAPIDS — John D. Scott, 75, son of the late Viola Shearin and Marson Scott, was born on March 28, 1935, in Jackson. On Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, God took him to a special place in His garden above.

John was a loving husband and father, and had lots of friends. He was employed at Ralph’s Barbeque in Weldon for 33 years. 

John received Christ at an early age and joined St. Mark Holiness Church under Pastor Bishop D.L. Manning. He was joined in holy matrimony to Thelma Bell Scott and their union was blessed with six children. 

John was preceded in death by two sisters, Sue and Anne Evans; and two brothers, Wilbur Shearin Bynum and Lewis Evans. 

John leaves behind to cherish his memory two daughters, Juanita Green (Willis) of Garysburg and Joyce Scott of Pleasant Hill; four sons, David Scott (Eva) of Pleasant Hill, Marvin Scott of Georgia, and Sammy Scot and Johnnie Scott, both of Garysburg; two other sons, Ronnie Perry (Barbara) and Donnie Perry (Dana), both of Gaston; three stepchildren, Odessa Hardy and Randy Bell, both of Gaston, and Narcissus Clement of Roanoke Rapids; a special daughter that he raised as his own, Annie Bell Blount of Halifax, and a special son, Emmanuel Bell of Roanoke Rapids; one sister, Susie Jane Scott of Garysburg; two brothers, Leroy Scott (Queen) of Weldon and Manson Shearin (Catherine) of Garysburg; four aunts, Hattie Simmons of Garysburg, Sally Mae (Paul) of Roanoke Rapids, Geneva Shearin Epps and Magdalene Evans; four uncles, George Junior Chambers and Charlie Lee Chambers (Dawn), both of Garysburg, Clifton Chambers of Staten Island, N.Y., and Wilson Chambers of Weldon; one brother-in-law, Zebedee Bell of Weldon; 25 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 20, in the chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, which is handling the arrangements.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 21, at New Jerusalem Holiness Church in Garysburg, with Bishop Dready Manning officiating. Interment will follow in the Roanoke Salem Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Garysburg.
