RICH SQUARE — Mr. Henry Vance Bennett, 48, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009.

Henry was a native of Northampton County. He was a graduate of Northeast Academy in Lasker. Following high school he attended and graduated from Wilson Community College in Wilson. He was married to Gail Johnson in 1983 and to this marriage was born two wonderful children. Henry was a member of the volunteer rescue squad and was the current chief of the Rich Square Fire Department. He was very active in Rich Square Baptist Church, serving as both deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years. Henry was co-owner of Bennett Brother’s Farm and Rich Square Cotton Gin. He was a very loving and caring husband, father, brother and a true friend to everyone who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Dorothy Wheeler Bennett and Henry Alton Bennett; and his sister, Dotty Harrell.

Survivors include his wife, Gail Johnson Bennett, a daughter, Brittany Bennett, and a son, Corey Bennett, all of the home; one sister, Juanita Davis of Roanoke Rapids; and two brothers, Gene Bennett and his wife, Joyce, Steve Bennett and his wife, Pat, all of Rich Square.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 21,  at Rich Square Baptist Church in Rich Square, with the Rev. Bob Rogers officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Rich Square.

The family will receive friends at anytime at the home of Henry and Gail, 813 Benthal Cooke Road, Rich Square.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Henry Bennett Children’s Education Fund, C/O of your local RBC Branch.

Sykes Funeral Service in Rich Square is handling the arrangements.
