Miss Matthews becomes the bride of Craig Eugene Hux

Ashley Brooke Matthews and Craig Eugene Hux, of Roanoke Rapids, exchanged wedding vows during a 4 p.m. ceremony on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at The Kirkwood Adams Civic Center in Roanoke Rapids.

The bride is the daughter of Larry and Gwen Matthews of Roanoke Rapids. She is the granddaughter of Shirley Jones and the late Robert Jones, Charlena Moore and the late Doyle Matthews, all of Littleton.

The bridegroom is the son of Woody and Teresa Turner of Roanoke Rapids. He is the grandson of the late Henry and Mattie Hux, the late Francis Johnson, Elizabeth Quay and the late Ron Quay, all of Roanoke Rapids.

The Rev. Randy Martin performed the nuptial ceremony.

A violinist and cellist performed the wedding music. The music was provided by “Blue Sands Music,” Ruby Prescott, of Raleigh.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a champagne, Casablanca classic strapless gown, featuring an A-line silhouette, beaded Chantilly lace overlay, scallops on the neckline with hand embroidered designs and crystals on the bodice and an empire waistline wrapped in luxe satin. The gown was highlighted by a scalloped semi-chapel train.

For her headpiece, the bride chose a fingertip-length veil with hand embroidered crystals and beads. She wore her great-grandmother’s (Annie Mae Butler) pearls and carried a bouquet of yellow roses and calla lilies. The bridesmaids carried a single calla lily.

Ms. Jessica Lynn Matthews of Roanoke Rapids, sister of the bride, served as maid of honor. Mrs. Courtney Gaskill of Lawrenceville, Ga., friend of the bride, served as matron of honor.  Bridesmaids were Ms. Jillian Garner and Ms. Whitney Hagan, both of Roanoke Rapids, Ms. Lauren Jenkins of Enfield and Ms. Adrienne Daniels of Raleigh, all friends of the bride.

Kaigan Warren of Hamstead served as flower girl. Ring bearer was Braxtin Hux of Roanoke Rapids, nephew of the bridegroom.

Dwayne Hux of Roanoke Rapids, brother of the bridegroom, served as best man. Groomsmen were Justin Matthews of Roanoke Rapids, brother of the bride, Matt Warren of Hamstead, Andy Taylor of Wilmington and Neal Campbell of Roanoke Rapids, all friends of the bridegroom, and Austin Hux of Roanoke Rapids, nephew of the bridegroom.

Wedding planner was Trina Silver of “Exclusively Yours,” in Weldon.

The couple will reside in Roanoke Rapids.

A reception was held following the ceremony at The Kirkwood Adams Civic Center with cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, dinner and dancing.

The bridegroom’s family held an after-rehearsal dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. M.J. Price. The dinner was catered by Terry Shaw and Randy Rolf.

A bridal shower was held on Aug. 9, at the All Saints Episcopal Church Parish Hall, and was given by Jillian Garner, Jessica Matthews, Catherine Johnson, Lauren Jenkins, Patsy Harrison, Kay Matthews, Sharon Garner and Peggy Robinson.

A recipe and pantry party was given by Lauren Jenkins and LaDonna Jenkins on Aug. 22.

A bridesmaids brunch was held on Sept. 12 at Timeless Tea, and was given by Jessica Matthews.

A bachelorette weekend was held at the home of Brandy Martin and given by Catherine Johnson, Brandy Martin, Jessica Matthews and Adrienne Daniels.

A bachelor weekend was held at Myrtle Beach, S.C., and was given by Dwayne Hux, Justin Matthews, Donnie Brooks, Matt Warren and Jacob Mabrey.
