Turn to God

Depression is not a disease it is a spirit. Instead of going to the doctor and getting medication and telling you need disability, you need to find a good church. One that preaches the gospel, God’s word. You need to carry it to the altar and give it to God. You need to tell God you can’t handle that spirit and for him to handle it for you. That is the way you take care of depression.

All faiths welcome

President Obama is right when he says America is not a Christian country. The claim America is a Christian country is direct opposition to the separation of church and state clearly laid out in the U.S. Constitution. We are actually a nation that allows believers of all religions to celebrate their faiths in freedom.

Mercury woes

What is the cause of the mercury problem with the Lake Gaston fish and what is being done to remedy the situation?

Editor’s note: We are working on a follow-up story on the problem.

Thank you

Thanks for the comments on John F. Kennedy. Would have been very interesting to see what our country would have been had he lived. Kind of like where would we be had Lincoln been allowed to live. Thanks.

Message to the Senate

I have been going through this health bill a little each day and have found it to be very short on reform and very high on entitlements and deferred costs. Our history with entitlements is that they just get bigger and bigger and you never seem to be able to slow them down. The costs seem to have had all sorts of games played with them to make it seem that it is not going to cost us anything except a lot of money being taken out of Medicare. If you are going to cut costs why not do it with a reduction in waste and fraud not take away solid needed benefits? I am just scared silly by the Congress history on controlling anything they pass. It is kind of like having a baby. That is the easy part. Bringing it up is the hard part. The problem is people have the baby but then have nothing to do with its upbringing. Something like “Don’t hold me responsible for my actions.” I am not against reforming parts of the health care system but this is not even close to doing anything like that. This is a clear no vote. This is a very bad bill. Better to do nothing then this.

Take care in what you want

I noticed that a Sound Off! comment indicated the person liked their Medicare and Social Security but not their supplemental insurance which increased in cost. Therefore they thought that the government should step in since private industry could not do the job very well. Have they not noticed that food, fuel, clothing and just about everything else they buy has gone up no matter what you hear? The government can print money, which they do, but industry can’t do that. Perhaps they think that the government should run everything. Be careful what you wish for because you will not be happy with what you get. Part of the saving in this so called health care bill, which has almost no reform but does have huge added entitlements, is a reduction of roughly half a trillion dollars from Medicare. See how you like it when they say you can’t get a procedure because of your age. Then who do you yell at? It will be too late.

" To:Turn to God I am a Christian that has bipolar disorder, severe depression goes along with it. Please go to the altar and pray for some understanding. My faith in God helps me daily but I rely on the medication my doctor prescribes for me for my depression. I believe God gave him the ability to know how to treat me. I went to a certain church for five years and they tried to convince me that bipolar disorder and depression was a generational curse. No one has the right to give advise to a depressed person unless they have been in their shoes.Bipolar disorder is a chemical imbalance in the brain which makes it a disease. "

" I, too, have suffered from depression throughout my life and have come to the conclusion after many failed attempts of using medication that it wasn't for me but it IS necessary for some people. It is very much a disease, like cancer, and the lack of sensitivity towards it is a little unnerving. To those of you who haven't suffered from it, please spare those who have from your biased judgments. "

" Why is it that the Northampton Co. Sheriffs Dept waits until hours after a call is reported to show up? Are you waiting for the incident to be over because you are afraid of your job or is it because you are being interupted at the Shell station from drinking coffee and flirting with the employees there. Our tax dollars are wasted on this County agency. I hope we will finally be able to elect a sheriff that cares about the residents of Northampton Co. and not using the position for their own personal gain. Hiring some deputies that have a concern for the residents and property of the people who pay their salary would be a big help. If the residents have to do their own police work maybe we need to keep our tax money to buy ourselves guns to keep intruders out of our homes in the middle of the night! "

    " To: Turn To God

You're right on one accord, everyone should be in church and give their problems to God.
But, you're wrong about depression. Depression comes from within, and it's not called a spirit. I know the way you're thinking...see, I am a Christian and when you say it's a spirit, I know exactly what your referring to.
Yes, God can and does take care of his children, even those that suffer with medical problems. He gives man the ability to learn and to find ways to help him, through technology, etc.
Please, dont' tell anyone that suffers with depression that it's not real, that's it's a spirit, all in their head, until you walk in my shoes or someone elses, you can't begin to understand.
God has helped and continue to help me in numerous ways, he's helping me with my depression by making the medicines available that I take. "

" To the person that said to give depression to God at the altar, I would like to ask if they take heart medicine, cholesterol medicine, sinus medication, digestive medicines? If you do, why would you not take something if you have a chemical imbalance in your brain? Why is it ok to take the other meds but not ok to take something for depression? I have taken my depression to the altar for year, but the Lord did end up blessing me witha dr. that could figure out what was going on with me and get me on the right meds. The brain literally runs your body and mind, why do people treat it so lightly? There is nothing wrong with being on meds for depression. I have been a Christian for years, know that the Lord can heal and put all my faith in Christ, but this is no different than someone needing heart medicine to help them live. "

" To "depressed" why don't you try giving it to God, with full faith that He is going to help you, and see what happens. You will be pleasantly surprised. I will be praying for you. "

" I am glad God took your depression away, good for you. He helps me to coordinate a plan with my health care proffesionals that He created. If your appendix should burst, just take it to the alter. "

" To the person that posted that depression is not a disease. Evidently, you are not someone that suffers from depression. I am. I could give it to God, the devil, the chicken out in the country, but without medical intervention I wouldn't be here. God only helps those that help themselves. Don't expect God to shower gifts upon you. You have to work at things and show God you are trying then sitting back, like many do, and say its in God's hands. "
