WELDON — An “Angel” is missing and her family wants her home.

On Nov. 16, a family was traveling on Interstate 95 when an accident separated them from their beloved Angel, a 2-year old wire-haired/Jack Russell Terrier.

The pup’s owners are devastated by the loss, according to their daughter Brenda Rana.

N.C. Highway Patrol said Rana’s parents’ black Ford Cherokee was involved in a four-car pile up near Exit 173.

Halifax Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene. The couple was hospitalized in Halifax Regional Medical Center, where they’ve since recovered from their injuries.

Angel, who was also in the car, ran away when EMS workers tried to catch her. “I don’t know if she’s hurt,” said Rana.

Animal Control and other authorities were contacted. They were asked to keep a lookout and notify the family if they found her.

“We got word she’d been spotted near Weldon Steel last week and we set a trap for her, but it yielded no dog,” said Animal Control Officer David Turner. “We’re doing regular patrols of that area looking for her, but that’s all we can do right now.”

“It’s amazing, but she was a rescue for my parents. They found her on the highway near Christmastime when she was a puppy,” said Rana. “That’s why they named her Angel ... They treat her like a princess,” Rana said.

She said since she and her sister are grown, Angel has become the focus of their parents’ love and affection. “They really miss her,” she said.

The family is offering a substantial reward for Angel’s return. If you see her, call (919) 523-8385 or (313) 505-4823.
