Frederick ‘Freddie’ W. Nicholson

ROANOKE RAPIDS — Mr. Frederick “Freddie” W. Nicholson, 71, of 707 Robinson Boat Landing, Roanoke Rapids, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, at his residence.

He was born in Halifax County and was the son of the late Lee Thomas Nicholson and Lucy Rook Nicholson. Freddie was a former welder and a member of the Boiler Makers Local 45. He formerly served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the American Legion. He was an avid fisherman.

Mr. Nicholson is survived by his wife, Ann Rook Nicholson; three daughters, Martha Medlin and her husband, Keith, Kathy Pierce and Kimberly Fitzhugh, all of Roanoke Rapids; one brother, Reggie Nicholson and his wife, JoAnn, of Roanoke Rapids; two sisters, Pat Hayes and Mary Boulineau and her husband, Charles, all of Roanoke Rapids; his grandchildren, Jonathan Fitzhugh, Justin, Ryan and Noah Medlin, Will Cox, Nick and Heather Pierce; a special niece, Carla Pollard; and a special nephew, Ricky Lee.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., today, Jan. 20, at Wrenn, Clarke & Hagan Funeral and Cremation Service in Roanoke Rapids, which is handling the arrangements.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 21, at Cedarwood Cemetery, with Dr. Dennis Gregory officiating.
