ROANOKE RAPIDS — Odella Jordan Baird, 88, of Gaston, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010, at Guardian Care of Roanoke Rapids.

Mrs. Baird was born in Roanoke Rapids, the daughter of the late Reuben Jordan and Ollie Ruth Thompson Jordan. She was a homemaker and a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Braxton “Buck” Baird; a sister, Edna Jordan; and a brother, Reuben “Buddy” Jordan.

She is survived by her husband, Melvin Russell Baird; two sons, Russell Douglas Baird and his wife, Shelia, and Allen M. Baird and his wife, Leona, all of Roanoke Rapids; her daughter-in-law, Stephanie Baird of Gaston; five sisters, Lucille Odom, of Gaston, Ethel Revells, of Roanoke Rapids, Ruth Joyner, of Gaston, Sallie Justice, of Emporia, Va., and Carolyn Clay, of Garysburg; a grandson, Jeffrey Baird and his wife, Vickie, of Clayton; a great-grandchild, Sydney Kerrington Baird of Clayton.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., today, Jan. 22, at Wrenn, Clarke & Hagan Funeral and Cremation Service, which is handling the arrangements and other times at the home of Allen M. Baird, 44 Windsong Drive, Roanoke Rapids.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 23, in the chapel of the funeral home, with the Rev. Steve Mullinex officiating. Interment will follow in the Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery in Gaston.
