ROANOKE RAPIDS — Frances Newsome Jenkins, 90, died Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, at Guardian Care of Roanoke Rapids.

Mrs. Jenkins was born Oct. 6, 1919, to the late Johnny and Laura Walker Newsome. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Elmo Howard Jenkins; a son, Howard Elmo Jenkins Jr.; and her brothers and sisters, Carrie Newsome, Claudia Wood, Lucy Conwell, Daisy Moseley, Sallie Jenkins, Robert Newsome and Jack Newsome.

She is survived by one daughter, Marilyn J. Plyler, of Roanoke Rapids; two sons, John Reid Jenkins and his wife, Celesta, of Arkansas, and Billy Ray Jenkins and his wife, Tammy, of Fayetteville; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and a special daughter-in-law, Verla Jenkins, of Roanoke Rapids.

 Private graveside services will be held at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 27, at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Littleton, with the Rev. Bruce Dayton officiating.

Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements.
