Marshall Miles

GASTON — Marshall Miles, 77, of 128 Porch Drive, Gaston, departed this life Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010, at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.

Marshall was born Jan. 29, 1932, in Northampton County, to the late Charlie and Lottie Miles.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Edith S. Miles, of Gaston; five sons, Thurman (Rosaline) Powell, of Baltimore, Roger (Linda) Avent, of Virginia Beach, Va., Larry, Kenneth and Terrance Avent, all of Roanoke Rapids; six daughters, Vivian Avent, of Wake Forest, Mary Avent, of Roanoke Rapids, Joan (Jeffery) McAlpine, of Upper Marlboro, Md., Peggy Miles, of Baltimore, Linda (Joseph) Davies, of Baltimore, and Teresa (Rodney) Barksdale, of Henrico; two brothers, Charlie Miles Jr., of Durham, and Michael (Carolyn) Powell, of Gaston; one sister, Lillian Hardy, of Pleasant Hill; two aunts, Irene Powell, of Gaston, and Tee Webb, of Petersburg, Va.; 28 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Monday, Jan. 25, at Cool Spring Missionary Baptist Church. Bishop Wayne I. Welch officiated. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Faisons Funeral Home in Seaboard handled the arrangements.
