Sharon ‘Sharie’ Mays Altizer

ROANOKE RAPIDS — Sharon “Sharie” Mays Altizer, of Roanoke Rapids, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010, at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh after a short illness.

Born Oct. 28, 1942, in Huntington, W. Va., she was the daughter of the late Earl N. and Della P. Mays. She was a graduate of Buffalo High School and the Century College of Commerce.

While living in West Virginia, Sharie was employed as an administrative sales secretary for H.K. Porter Steel Company for 20 years. She was later employed as an administrative assistant at Marshall University for several years. After moving to North Carolina in 1996, she became the librarian at Weldon Memorial Library from which she retired in 2006.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who devoted her life to her family and friends. She had a passion for books, music, flowers and gardening, planting seeds of love and kindness to all.

Left to cherish her memory include her husband of 41 years, Ted M. Altizer; one daughter, Amy N. Altizer; one son and daughter-in-law, T.R. and Mina Altizer; one beloved granddaughter, Gwenneth Liu Altizer; her mother-in-law, Betty Sanders; and her church family of Stanley White Presbyterian Church.

There will be no funeral services or visitation. A memorial service to be scheduled this spring is being planned.

The family asks those who knew her and loved her, plant a special flower in her memory. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to Stanley White Presbyterian Church, 601 Ashton St., Roanoke Rapids NC 27870.
