GASTON — Lina Cook Porch Spence, 87, of 400 Porch Drive, Gaston, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at Liberty Commons in Weldon.

Lina was born in Northampton County, the daughter of the late Charlie Cook and Gracie Gray Cook. She attended Shiloh United Methodist Church and was a retired seamstress and nursing assistant. She was preceded in death by a son, Earl Porch; and her husbands, John Porch and Carter E. Spence.

She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Jarrell and her husband, Bobby “Slim,” of Gaston, and Marian Barnwell and her husband, J.C., of Roanoke Rapids; two sons, Richard Henry Porch, of Gaston, and R.D. Porch and his wife, Carolyn, of Roanoke Rapids; a stepson, Danny D. Spence and his wife, Cindy, of Rocky Mount; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several stepgrandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 8, at Wrenn, Clarke & Hagan Funeral and Cremation Service in Roanoke Rapids, which is handling the arrangements, and other times at 622 Old Emporia Road, Gaston.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 9, in the chapel of the funeral home, with the Rev. Larry Chandler officiating.
