Weldon police seek robbery suspect in gas station case

WELDON ” Weldon police have issued warrants on a suspect in the February robbery of a Blue Flame gas station.

According to Capt. J.E. Avens Jr., Weldon police have obtained warrants for the arrest of Calvin Leon Williams Jr., of Roanoke Rapids, in connection with the Feb.19 robbery of the Blue Flame in Weldon.

Anyone with information on Williams or his whereabouts should contact the Weldon Police Department at 252-536-3136 or Halifax County Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.

Weldon Police also announced the arrest of Anthony Jerome Gray, of Pleasant Hill. After receiving an anonymous call July 13 about a knocked out window, Sgt. Will Shaw responded to the residence and found Gray in the garage.

Gray was charged with breaking and entering and damage to property and received a $1,000 secured bond.

“I would like to encourage citizens to not hesitate in calling about suspicious activities that go on in their neighborhoods,” Avens stated.

“I would like to personally thank the anonymous caller that was concerned enough to make the call.”

On July 16, Sgt. Shaw stopped a vehicle for speeding in Weldon. Investigation led Shaw to arrest Marcus Wayne Hardy, of Roanoke Rapids, when Shaw found Hardy in possession of marijuana and hydrocodone pills.

He was charged with drug possession and given a $100 unsecured bond.
