Five years ago — 2007 — The board of commissioners refused to give Halifax County Schools any more money until it had more information and answers about the district’s financial situation and how any funds would be spent.
Fifteen years ago — 1997 — Chaloner Middle School unveiled its new on-campus football field when they hosted Weldon. The field is behind the school and was the product of a lot of hard work and dedication. The Yellow Jackets defeated Weldon 12-8.
Twenty years ago — 1992 — The increasing risk of rabies exposure to animals and humans prompted several local groups, including two hunt clubs, to sponsor free vaccination clinics for pets.
Twenty-five years ago — 1987 — The Roanoke Valley Arts Council’s first executive director Bonnie A. Jones resigned the position, effective Nov. 15.
