Weldon BOE meeting

The Weldon City Board of Education will hold a specially called meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. RRFD to hold hydrant testing

The Roanoke Rapids Fire Department is currently holding its annual hydrant testing. This process consists of taking pressure readings on each hydrant which allows the fire department to check performance. Testing also helps with locating valves that may be closed, which would restrict water flow for firefighting purposes. Please check your tap water for discoloration before drinking, bathing or washing clothes. If water is discolored, turn the cold water tap on until the water runs clear. Halifax County BOE to meet

The Halifax County Board of Education will meet virtually Monday. The board will convene in open session at 4 p.m. Shortly thereafter, the board will go into closed session. At the conclusion of closed session the board will return to open session for the regular business meeting. Spring Clean-Up Week

SEABOARD — The Town of Seaboard will hold its annual Spring Clean-Up Week April 12-16. All items must be placed at curbside and not in the road before 7:30 a.m. on April 16. This is the time to put out those old, broken and unused TVs, computers, stereos, appliances or furniture. The town will not be picking up limbs, brush and bagged leaves that week. Limbs, brush and bagged leaves will be resumed April 19. Absolutely NO tires, chemicals, concrete, bricks, paint, paint buckets, bagged trash, construction debris such as plywood, sheet rock, roofing shingles, decking boards, 2 X 4s, and so on, or items that can be placed in your regular trash receptacle. During that week, the Public Works department will begin picking items up each day from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Pancake & Sausage Brunch

The Littleton Lions Club will hold a Pancake & Sausage Brunch from 7:30 to 11 a.m. April 17 at its club, corner of Highway 158 and Ransom Street. The brunch includes juice, pancakes, sausage, eggs and choice of beverage. Price is $8 for adults and $4 for children under 10. Take outs are available and tickets will be available at the door. Proceeds will be used to aid the visually impaired and for other community service projects. If you have unneeded eye glasses at your home, please bring them to the brunch. As a worldwide project, Lions clubs collect more than 4 million eye glasses per year. They are cleaned, graded, repaired and provided free to people who need them. Gun safety, concealed carry permit class

JACKSON — The Northampton County Recreation Department will host a Gun Safety and Concealed Carry Permit class from 6 to 10 a.m. April 26-27 at the Northampton County Cultural & Wellness Center, 9536 N.C. Highway 305. To earn a concealed weapons permit, participants must attend both classes and meet the state requirements at the firing range. Community Paper Shred

LITTLETON — The Lake Gaston Association will sponsor its seventh annual Jack D. Saunders Community Paper Shred from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 8 in the lower parking area at the Roanoke-Wildwood Volunteer Fire Department, 790 Lizard Creek Road. The service is free to the public, but contributions will be accepted. Items to be shredded can include any old paper records; staples and paper clips need not be removed, but no three ring binders or heavy metal clamps will be accepted. Any amounts of paper for shredding that can be processed in the time period will be accepted. The truck-mounted shredder consumes about 10 book boxes/cases of paper every eight minutes. No boxes, computer memory discs or thumb drives can go in the shredder. People can stand and watch while the paper is shredded.
