Fish fry fundraiser

Boating America Safety Class
LITTLETON — The last Boating America Safety Class for 2021 will be at 8 a.m. Oct. 2 at the Londbridge Volunteer Fire Department, 1679 Eaton Ferry Road. Training is done by certified instructors and will include, but not limited to, existing Federal laws, North Carolina laws and Virginia laws, and safe boating practices. At completion, attendees will be given a Boating Safety Card prior to leaving. The class fee is $30 per person, which covers all course materials; payable at time of class, check or cash. Run for Recovery
A 5K Run for Recovery event will be held Saturday at 1026 Roanoke Ave. in Roanoke Rapids during National Recovery Month. This will be a run/walk event featuring testimony, food, music and vendors. Health department visitation policy update
The health and safety of patients, families and staff members are top priority. Due to the increase in positive COVID-19 cases, effective Sept. 13, all visits to the clinic will be limited to patient only or one parent/guardian accompanying their child under the age of 18. Visitors who accompany patients to the clinic will be required to remain in their vehicles. The change in the visitation policy is in the effort to continue prioritizing the safety of everyone and aid in preventing the spread of COVD-19.

Free play time

2021 Twilight Festival
The 2021 Twilight Festival — Hope for Hardy — will be at 5 p.m. Sept. 24 on historic Roanoke Avenue in Roanoke Rapids. There will be vendors, food trucks and a ping pong ball drop with a $1,000 prize, followed by a free concert at Centennial Park with entertainment by the Feature Attraction Band. Chili Cook Off planned
WELDON — The NC AMVETS Service Foundation will hold a Chili Cook Off Sept. 25 at Riverfalls Park, 200 Rock Fish Drive. Proceeds will benefit Gold Star Families and Remembrance on the River. Organizers are looking for 10 to 15 teams of six to compete. The registration fee is $30. All chili will be cooked on site the day of competition as well as judging and tastings. Chili will be for sale for $8 a quart or $4 a bowl after the Judges Tasting, which begins at 1 p.m. The public tasting is at 1:30 p.m., followed by the awards at 4 p.m. The Peoples Choice Award will be based on the most overall sales. Water safety council meeting
VALENTINES, Va. — The Lake Gaston Water Safety Council monthly membership meeting will held Sept. 29 at the Kennon House Restaurant, 7001 Gasburg Road.
