RALEIGH — Rep. Michael H. Wray (D-Northampton) took the oath of office Wednesday to represent Halifax and Northampton counties in the North Carolina House of Representatives for a two-year term. Wray begins his ninth term in the 2021-22 session of the N.C. General Assembly.
During the session Wednesday, House Speaker Tim Moore (R-Cleveland) also named Rep. Wray as co-chair of the House Finance Committee and co-chair of the House Ethics Committee, according to a press release.
“I am honored by the trust and support of my constituents who once again have given me the opportunity to serve our district and our state in the North Carolina General Assembly,” Rep. Wray said. “Also, I am honored that House Speaker Tim Moore reached across the aisle and named me to co-chair two very important committees. During these trying times politically and with this pandemic, it is important now more than ever to work together to face and solve these significant challenges. I will work hard each and every day on issues important to the people in my district and to the people of the State of North Carolina.”
Lawmakers will return to Raleigh on Jan. 27 to begin work on writing the state budget, which must be passed by the new fiscal year that starts on July 1. The 2021 session of the N.C. General Assembly is expected to last into the summer.
